Graduate Program in Pharmacology

The Program
The Graduate Program in Pharmacology (PPGFMC) at the Center for Biological Sciences of UFSC began in 1991, with the first master’s class activities. It was among the first Stricto Sensu graduate programs in the major areas of Biological and Health Sciences in the state of Santa Catarina, at a time when the expansion of graduate programs and the university system in Brazil was still in its early stages. Since its creation, the PPGFMC has awarded more than 280 master’s degrees and 180 doctorates, who now work as professors and researchers in various Brazilian and international sectors, including public and private universities, Research and Innovation centers, industry, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. These professionals play prominent roles in scientific and technological advancement, contributing to the development of society.
Mission
Our mission is to train graduate students to become independent researchers, qualified to teach and carry out scientific research in basic and pre-clinical research laboratories at Universities, Research Institutes, or in the pharmaceutical industry, both nationally and internationally.
Vision
We are committed to maintaining an environment in which:
- The most up-to-date scientific knowledge is addressed;
- Technical skills are developed through both classical and innovative experimental approaches;
- Critical thinking about the applicability of pharmacology and related areas is encouraged.
Values
Act with transparency and respect toward the Institution, the academic community, society, and its diversity, including gender, social, and cultural aspects. Work continuously, committed to the production of high-quality knowledge and scientific rigor, guided by ethics, morals, and responsibility.
Admission Process
Admission to the PPGFMC is through an in-person or remote selection process. The PPGFMC offers master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral scholarships, funded by CAPES, CNPq, and FAPESC. Participation in the admission process is free of charge. Additionally, there is no enrollment fee or monthly fee charged to any student, whether Brazilian or not.
